As the body of Christ, our mission is to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every person in the world and to make disciples of all the nations, as mandated for us by His Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20. We do this under the authority of God's inerrant Word, to the glory of God the Father ("For in Him we live and move and have our being" - Acts 17:28a) under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, and by the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.
History in Brief
Beginning on Sunday, November 4, 1984, forty-eight people met to organize a new church in the Cedar Creek Lake area. The purpose was to reach out evangelistically to all ages. They wanted to be a mission-minded, Bible-believing, Bible-teaching church led by the Holy Spirit to be what Christ intended a church to be. The first Sunday School and worship service was held on November 11, 1984 in Brawner Hall. The first church building was built in 1987. In December 1985, the church constituted and closed its charter with 84 members. Seventeen of those remain active members today. Byron Jones was called to serve as pastor in August of 1985. Bro. Jones and the membership celebrated twenty-five years of ministry together on September 11, 2010.
First Baptist Church supports and participates in Southern Baptist mission work, locally, nationally, and globally. From the family, God has called men and women to serve as Mission Service Corp volunteers and North American Missions Volunteers. Mission groups have answered the call to Africa, Haiti, Mexico, Colorado, Washington D.C., Pennsylvania, New York, North Carolina, Tennessee, Louisiana, and South Dakota; as well as to homeless shelters in the Metroplex area. We have young adults who currently serve in the unreached areas of India and China. The church sponsored a Hispanic Mission beginning in 1992, which became a part of First Baptist Church in 2002. The mission church building was then donated to the Anointed Gospel Tabernacle, an African-American congregation in the area.
In addition to regular Bible study and worship services, First Baptist Church provides ministry programs specifically for children, youth, men, women, and senior adults. Music programs for all ages enrich our worship as we exalt the Lord with joyful noise! God has hand-picked a diversified group of people over the years of our relatively short history to worship, work, nurture, and fellowship together for the edification of the saints and the redemption of the world. As we faithfully serve Him, He continues to bless above all that we can ask or think. Until His kingdom comes, His work is not yet done. We invite you to Church.
